Honest graft event 1

Jesmond Community Festival 9/10th May

We joined in the Jesmond Festival Parade and had a Plant Stall at the Grand Festival Fair in West Jesmond Primary School yard on the opening day of this year's Festival.

And, on the Sunday afternoon (10 May) we held a Birds, Bugs and Blossom Event at the Orchard, with craft activities and nature studies to interest the whole family. We also had a storyteller, and Vince Cassidy, the beekeeper, was there explaining how to keep bees.

Grafting event at West Jesmond Primary School on 27th March

We helped Honest Graft with a grafting event at West Jesmond Primary School on Friday 27 March. 75 children from year 5 at the school learned about growing fruit trees in the North East and helped to graft some apple trees which will extend the Orchard in the Cemetery.

Gardening Day 14June 3

Gardening Day at the Orchard on 14th June

We held a Gardening Day at the Orchard on Sunday 14 June. Not the nicest day for gardening, but we're a hardy lot! We pruned the stone fruit and the almond tree, weaved the willow growth into the bower and weeded the cordon bed.

Picnic 4

Picnic in the Orchard on 19th June

We held an informal picnic in the Orchard on 19th June. The weather was fairly kind and light refreshments were provided.

Cider Tasting after AGM 2015

Annual General Meeting held on 1st July with Cider Tasting

This year's Annual General Meeting for Jesmond Community Orchard was held on 1 July in Jesmond Library. There was a short business meeting, to approve the accounts and elect the committee for the next year, followed by a visual presentation and discussion to summarise progress and look forward to what we want to do in the coming year. It was well attended and the Cider Tasting was a great success. See the aftermath ->>>

Interpretation Board 4

New Interpretation Board

We have a superb new Interpretation Board to explain the Orchard to visitors and it is now installed in the Orchard..

Apple Day and Cider day

This year's Apple Day was celebrated on Saturday 3rd October. There was lots of apple juice as we now have a bigger apple press, and thanks to Jon Hutton for lending his electric crusher. Ken brought 72 different varieties of apple and we had a lot of samples from our own Community Orchard for tasting. The smoothie bike was popular, and a new version of apple bobbing proved a great success.

Sunday 4th was Cider day and lots more apple juice was produced.
